It's Official

Friends and Family,

Emily and I got engaged on Friday, February 17th. I took her to the Capital Grille in Minneapolis and proposed after a dinner of succulent steak, sauteed mushrooms, and some lovely wine. The staff gave us some privacy to share the moment before they surprised us with some raspberries and cream, followed by two glasses of champagne, all on the house. Then, we met virtually every staff member as each one congratulated us personally. It was a warm blur of smiles and elation.

Full of beef and alcohol, we navigated the city's skyways to the Guthrie, where we saw a fabulous performance of Tennessee Williams's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Along the way, we both giddily referred to each other as "my fiance(e)"; the idea was too new and unbelievable to contain ourselves. The performance was faithful to the script and thankfully not the film version. We laughed, we gasped - thank you to Pete and Kathy for the excellent Christmas present of tickets.

The next day, we made many calls and began to discuss venue, guest list, and other details. We're favoring summer 2012 over summer 2013, possibly this August. We'll update this blog with details as things settle. We have a great deal to coordinate between now and then, and we're thankful for all the good wishes from our friends and family. My family has certainly been patting me on the back about this decision. We hope to share the celebration with everyone soon.

Much love,

-Matty

  1. What a perfect evening!

theyellowdart? As a soon to be member of the family, please clarify. The Urban Dictionary suggestions don't seem to apply...

Speaking of monikers, I suppose we'll have to wait to see what surname you both choose...

  2. Hmmm. Or it could be interpreted as "The Yellowed Art." Some cryptic reference to an old oil painting that is losing its vibrant coloring. Or not.
